Hans J Wegner
Hans J Wegner helped widen the influence of the Danish Modern movement and make furniture design a big thing in the 1950s and ’60s. His passion for chair design brought about his nickname, “The Master of the Chair.”
His designs were impeccable, with exquisite shapes and joints, and leaned heavily on wood as a medium. The lines were minimalist, organic and soft. Nowhere is this more successfully showcased than with his Wishbone chair, which became his all-time greatest achievement. By the time Hans J Wegner died in his native Denmark in 2007, the 92-year-old had long been lauded as one of the country’s most visionary designers.
